"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do." -- Steve Jobs

Talks and Trunk Shows

I call my business Short Attention Span Quilting because I find I am no longer constitutionally capable of making repetitive block quilts.  I want my pieces to challenge my imagination and my skills, give me a reason to take a class and learn something new, to be constantly changing, evolving, and using different techniques to create the visions I get in my head of how that quilt or garment should be made.  So, in a given quilt, I may handpaint, add a printed photograph, applique, embellish with various esoteric things like sheer fabrics and roving, Angelina fiber and Tintzl, Puff Paint and 3-dimensional paint, or I may decide to create a traditional background and then do wild and crazy things on top of that. (In order to get an idea of the kind of quilts and garments I make, please visit either the Quilts Gallery or the Garments Gallery, or both.)

Given that premise, these are the talks/trunk shows I do, at a cost of $450 each, plus expenses.

Short Attention Span Quilting - Quilts Only (can be done virtually or in  person)  – This is a grand panorama of my development as an art quilter, starting with my Grandma’s quilt, my first blue ribbon quilt, and moving on through patchwork, story, portrait, landscape, abstract, and liturgical quilts.  All of the quilts have their own story, and each one is completely different from the next.  Most of these quilts are prizewinning quilts, and have been juried into one major quilt show or another.  There’s a little poetry, a bit of philosophy, some history, and an overall view of how our quilts tie us to our mothers, our grandmothers, our great-grandmothers, and the great beyond. I bring about 40 or so.  The Guild must provide two tables for quilts, and two volunteers to hold up quilts, and a microphone if needed.  It is helpful if the Guild provides two or more quilt display frames for background. Click on this link, which will take you to the Quilt Gallery if you wish to see more pictures of my quilts:

Short Attention Span Quilting - Quilts and Garments (can be done virutally or in-person)
I bring about 20-25 quilts and about 20-25 full ensembles.  The ensembles range from casual to formal, funky to elegant, and are truly art to wear.  The quilts range from traditional to art quilts, portraits to landscape quilts, large quilts to miniatures.  This is a grand quilt and garment show, with an emphasis on artistic techniques and stories the quilts and garments tell about how to fill empty hands with comfort and empty spaces with beauty.  If you choose this option, the Guild must provide 6 or more models size 8 to 12, who bring all the colors of shoes they have, along with long hose, a black skirt or pants, and come and hour early to be fitted for full ensemble garments.  The Guild must also provide the a room for the models to change in, a clothes rack, a table for quilts, and two volunteers to hold up quilts. It is helpful if the Guild provides two quilt display frames for background.  Click on this link, which will take you to the Garment Gallery if you wish to see more examples of my work:  /garment-gallery.html

Flamboyancy Rising Fashion Show (In-persononly)
I bring 40 or so complete ensembles which range from casual to formal, funky to elegant, and are truly art to wear.  My philosophy about garments is that the garment should reflect your own personality, be comfortable, be washable, truly wearable, and make you feel beautiful, no matter your size or shape.  The Guild must provide 10 or more models size 8 to 12, who bring all the colors of shoes they have, along with long hose, a black skirt or pants, and come an hour early to be fitted for full ensemble garments. The Guild must also provide a room for the models to change in, a clothes rack, a table for quilts, a microphone if needed, and two volunteers to hold up quilts. It is helpful if the Guild provides two quilt display frames for background.  Click on this link to reach the Quilt Gallery /quilt-gallery.html, and this link to reach the Garment Gallery: /garment-gallery.html

Down & Dirty Design & Terrific Techniques
This is a trunk show that gives you principles of design you can keep in your head while creating traditional and/or art quilts and shows you shortcuts and techniques to make your quilts come alive!  See how to use fabric paints, fusibles, heat guns, cracked ice, Lutradur, Tyvek, Angelina fiber, Puff Paint, foil, and many other substances to create special effects while remaining true to the quilting tradition.  The Guild must provide  a microphone if needed, a table for quilts, and  a few volunteers to hold up quilts.  It is helpful if the Guild provides two quilt display frames for background.

All talks/trunk shows are $450 plus expenses.

There is vitality, a life-force, a quickening that is translated through you into action. And because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through another medium. It will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is…It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. - Martha Graham
